Positioning

Built for SEO leads who need defensible placements.

If you run ecommerce SEO link building in-house or buy white-label work for clients, you need a supplier that publishes vetting thresholds, names the link types it will not buy, and reports every URL. Our ecommerce link building services exist for that brief: real publishers, capped commercial anchors, and replacements when a link drops inside 90 days.

For heads of SEO, ecommerce directors, and agency partners who cannot risk a spreadsheet that collapses after the next core update.

Scope of work

What ecommerce link building services include

We build six link types. Each entry states what the placement is, the typical DR band we accept, where we use it, and what we refuse to sell under that label. Individual service pages cover deliverables when you need one motion only.

As an ecommerce link building agency, we mix these types based on your gap analysis. Supplements usually need more digital PR and roundups. B2B industrial stores usually need more resource and supplier links. We do not sell undifferentiated DR 50 packages. If a prospect asks for homepage links only, we push back and map placements to commercial URLs.

Digital PR and guest placements take longer to land than stockist updates, often 3 to 6 weeks from first pitch. Roundups cluster around seasonal windows. Resource and unlinked-mention work is steadier month to month. Your retainer mix should reflect those rhythms, not a flat count of identical links. We also decline programs that only target homepage URLs when category pages hold the commercial keywords.

Method

From audit to live URL

Five gates, in order. Outreach does not start until the page map is approved. Each gate ships a named deliverable so you can brief stakeholders without guessing week three.

Step 01 Days 1–5

Gap the competitors that already rank

We pull your referring domains, map them against the top five organic competitors on primary category and product queries, and flag gaps by link type, DR band, and topical cluster. You see who earns roundups, who earns trade press, and which gaps are realistic this quarter.

Deliverable Gap spreadsheet plus a 30-minute walkthrough within five business days of kickoff.

Step 02 Before first pitch

Map pages and anchors that can absorb links

We pick URLs that can actually take citations: category pages with unique copy, guides with citation potential, and a limited set of product URLs. Anchors stay mostly branded and naked-URL. Exact-match commercial anchors are capped so the profile stays defensible in a manual review.

Deliverable Page-and-anchor map with monthly placement caps. Outreach does not start until you approve it.

Step 03 Every cycle

Prospect, then fail most of the list

Prospects come from competitor backlinks, vertical publisher lists, and fresh searches for roundup and resource opportunities. Every domain clears the vetting table before it enters the pitch queue. Failures stay in the log with a one-line reason.

Deliverable Vetted list of 40 to 80 domains per campaign cycle, refreshed monthly.

Step 04 Weekly cadence

Pitch editors, negotiate only what you approve

Outreach is personalized to the editor or site owner. We pitch story angles, product fits, or resource updates, then negotiate terms when a fee applies. Any paid placement above your agreed threshold waits for your sign-off before budget moves.

Step 05 Live within 48 hours

Ship the URL, then prove it held

When a link goes live we capture the URL, anchor, target page, DR, estimated traffic, and indexation status. Monthly reports show new placements, cumulative referring domains, and losses. Links dropped within 90 days are replaced at no extra placement fee.

Deliverable Shared sheet updated within 48 hours of each placement, plus a monthly PDF summary.

Context

Why ecommerce link building is harder than SaaS or local

SaaS companies can publish calculators, original datasets, and free tools that journalists cite. Local businesses earn citations from chambers, directories, and community pages. Most online stores have thin category templates, manufacturer product copy shared with 40 other retailers, and almost no assets a journalist would quote. That is the job you inherited.

Category pages rank on commercial intent, yet they rarely look linkable. Product pages nobody cites still need equity if they sit on money keywords. Marketplace sellers face the same problem with less control over on-page unique content. Buying generic SEO links without a page strategy usually pads the referring-domain count while category rankings stay flat.

Duplicate manufacturer descriptions make the problem worse. When Google already sees the same block of specs on a dozen retailers, a handful of low-quality referring domains will not differentiate your URL. You need unique merchandising copy or a guide editors can cite, then links that support those URLs on purpose.

Publisher standards

Vetting standards we will not bend

This is the section most vendors skip. A site must clear every row before we pitch it. If you want volume above these thresholds, we are the wrong partner.

Publisher vetting criteria
Criterion Threshold Why it matters
Organic traffic floor ≥ 1,000 organic visits / month (Ahrefs or Similarweb) Below this, the domain rarely passes meaningful crawl equity and often exists mainly to sell links.
Traffic-to-referring-domain ratio ≥ 3:1 (organic visits : referring domains) A low ratio usually means the site collects links faster than it earns readers.
Topical relevance Same vertical, adjacent retail, or clear consumer-interest overlap A pet brand link on a casino blog does not help category rankings and looks unnatural.
Outbound link profile ≤ 5 commercial dofollow outbound links in the target article body Articles stuffed with advertiser links are treated as paid placements by most reviewers.
Indexation Target URL indexed in Google at pitch time and at placement An unindexed page cannot pass equity. We re-check before reporting a link as live.
No link-selling footprints No write-for-us pages, sponsored post rate cards, or PBN network markers on-site Public rate cards and network footprints are the fastest way to waste budget on a future deindex.

Hard no

What we reject

  • Private blog networks and expired-domain networks, including niche edits on sites with traffic cliffs after a prior owner.
  • Guest-post farms that publish 30+ sponsored articles per month with near-identical layouts and author bios.
  • Sites with organic traffic under 1,000 visits per month, unless you approve an exception in writing for a strategic relationship link.
  • Domains where referring domains exceed organic traffic on a sustained 3-month average.
  • Coupon, rebate, and deal aggregators used only for dofollow homepage links.
  • Any placement that requires exact-match commercial anchors as a condition of publication.

When a site fails, we keep a one-line reason in the prospect log. You can request that log at any time. Thresholds are defaults, not dogma for relationship links: a genuine supplier page with 800 monthly visits may still be worth pursuing if relevance outweighs the traffic floor. Those exceptions are written into the monthly plan before outreach.

10 store programs with numbers, interventions, and the caveats that belonged next to the result.

Fashion and apparel · Shopify

Running collection into the top 6 with guide-first outreach

The running sneaker collection ranked between positions 14 and 19 for core commercial terms while most historical links pointed at the homepage and a viral collab drop. Category and fit-guide URLs were underlinked against legacy athletic brands with denser training-media coverage.

Intervention

26 editorial links · 5 months

Result

6 · Week 14 from program start

Caveat: A spring training content refresh and paid social spikes overlapped the measurement window. Session gains should be read as multi-channel, not pure SEO causality.

Beauty · Shopify Plus

Serum collection from position 21 to 8 without coupon spam

The vitamin C serum collection sat at average position 21 with a backlink profile dominated by beauty coupon directories and thin UGC blogs. Ingredient education pages existed but earned almost no citations, so commercial URLs carried weak topical support against legacy prestige brands.

Intervention

31 editorial links · 6 months

Result

8 · Month 5 after first live placements

Caveat: The brand also launched a reformulated listing with clearer clinical language in month three. Ingredient PR coverage and that PDP refresh both influenced conversion, so revenue lift is not attributable to links alone.

Outdoor and sporting goods · Shopify Plus

Collection into the top 5, then the hero SKU

A hero insulated jacket SKU ranked on page three for the commercial query with thin unique copy and only 11 referring domains, most from directories. The parent collection was underlinked. Prior outreach had chased product URLs before the category and buying guide had enough editorial support to compete.

Outside top 10 (low teens)

Intervention

22 editorial links · 4 months

Result

Top 5 · 11 weeks from program start

Caveat: Winter seasonality helped. The same playbook starting in May would likely move slower. Thin unique copy on the SKU also improved during the engagement, so roundup links were not the only product-page variable.

Home and furniture · Shopify

Hybrid category from average position 18 to 7

The hybrid mattress category URL sat at average position 18 for the primary head term with only 42 referring domains and heavy reliance on homepage links from prior vendors. Competitors held denser design-blog and trade coverage on the category and supporting guides, not denser homepage spam.

18

Intervention

28 editorial links · 5 months

Result

7 · Within 4 months of first placements landing

Caveat: The brand also rewrote category copy and improved internal linking in month two. Links were not the only variable. Treat the position and session gains as a combined SEO intervention, not a pure link-building proof.

Commercial terms

Pricing by publisher band

Three starting points tied to Domain Rating and organic traffic: Essential from $200, Select from $250, Authority from $350. Agency partners get a private quote—no public rate card. Serious ecommerce link building is priced by publisher floors, not bulk DR labels.

Essential

Volume coverage on vetted niche publishers

From $200 per placement

  • Domain rating DR 20+
  • Organic traffic Traffic 1k+

Category and supporting pages that need steady editorial citations without vanity floors.

Authority

Higher-authority publishers with real organic reach

From $350 per placement

  • Domain rating DR 60+
  • Organic traffic Traffic 5k+

Trade, lifestyle, and high-trust sites when you need stronger referring domains on money pages.

Per-placement starting prices for English-language consumer verticals. Final fees move with niche difficulty, content load, and exclusivity. CBD, adult, and online pharma are quoted separately.

What makes a quote go up

Band prices assume English-language consumer verticals. These four things push the number higher.

  1. Harder niches Supplements and beauty cost more than home goods at the same DR band — fewer clean publishers, more claim scrutiny.
  2. Higher bands Moving from Essential into Select or Authority shrinks inventory and raises placement cost.
  3. Creative / PR work Digital PR with original data or story development costs more than outreach against an asset you already have.
  4. Ops extras White-label reporting, multi-brand accounts, or turnaround under 14 days add scope.

We do not quote “500+ low quality links” packages without naming link types and vetting rules. If you need that for procurement, we are the wrong vendor.

Placements bill when the URL is live and confirmed indexed. Ongoing programs can invoice monthly against an agreed band mix and volume.

Fit filter

Who this is not for

  • Stores that need 500+ low quality links in 30 days regardless of publisher quality. We will not compress vetting to hit a volume KPI.
  • Brands whose category and product templates still use unmodified manufacturer copy with no unique material planned. Fix the page before you buy links.
  • Anyone requiring PBNs, exact-match anchor quotas above 20% of new placements, or links on sites under 1,000 monthly organic visits as the default.
  • Affiliate sites and pure dropshipping stores with no brand entity, no customer service footprint, and no willingness to earn editorial mentions under a real name.
